SCIENCE: First Day Information

responsibility, accountability, positive actions met by positive consequences

Dear Parents and Students;

I want to thank you for the opportunity to help your child understand the concepts of seventh grade science.  This year your child will be exploring the Earth's history and structures, its ecology, and leave the school year understanding some properties of physics.  I hope your child will be inspired by the activities planned for them.

My dissertation research proves that before a child learns a subject, science or otherwise, he/she must enjoy it.  Pending any unforeseen challenges, I will be introducing  STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) and thematic activities.  I hope I can convey that everything we do in life is for science.  We use MATH to understand science, LANGUAGE ARTS to communicate science, SOCIAL STUDIES to determine what questions need to be answered through science, and ART to interpret science in alternative ways.  I hope to bring REAL LIFE applications to your child's thought processes.

Although our main focus will be on life, Earth and physical science, I will be taking your student through the process of learning for the future or preparing them for learning beyond my class.  My students will be introduced to researched based proven methods to improve their study, organizational, social, critical thinking skills and test taking abilities.  These are outlined in our districts AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program.  Incorporated in this methodology will be your child's ability to accept responsibility, be accountable, and understand that actions result in consequences.

I look forward to welcoming the students on first day of school and the parents on back to school night.  If you want your child to get a head start on this years SCIENCE adventure you can click on the links below to download and print the information provided.
